An innovation and research network committed to addressing vital nuclear security challenges
NTR-Net is as collaborative initiative that has been created to address nuclear security issues of national and international importance.
The NTR-Net consortium includes the Universities of Bristol, Bangor, Birmingham*, Imperial College*, Manchester, Queen Mary, Kings*, Sheffield*, Southampton* and Surrey.
Involvement in the network provides the opportunity for researchers to partake in the training and education programme, and for students and academics to become involved in NTR-Net technical workshops and meetings.
In carrying out its work the initiative will very much rely on advanced scientific and engineering expertise – expertise in which UK academia excels.
NTR-Net provides an opportunity for UK universities, academics and students to get engaged in innovative research that will enhance the UK’s Nuclear Threat Reduction programme and ensure the country and its global partners have the robust capabilities needed to meet future nuclear challenges.

As an academic partner you will be able to:
- Access CDP (Centre for Doctoral Partnership) PhD funding
- Apply for pilot project and rapid access funding
- Attend technical meetings and share your expertise
You will be asked to:
- Contribute to CDP PhD funding
- Support to and send your students to CDP training
- Offer expertise in at least one of our research themes
- Match with academic partners to get involved in PhD CDP studentships
- Support PhD CDP training
- Attend selected technical meetings
A key part of out work is to provide postgraduate students with cohort training covering the key disciplines in nuclear threat reduction.
